Yes, e-Bikes in Canada have a maximum speed limit of 32 km/h to adhere to specific regulations
and ensure safety.
No, users do not need a license to ride an e-Bike. However, regulations and legislation governing e-Bike operation can change. Users are encouraged to review local regulatory information on a regular basis given the growing popularity and proliferation of e-Bike usage. Happy Riding!
While Cikada e-Bikes boast excellent design and have passed numerous international standards for construction, certain precautions should be taken during inclement weather to protect the bike and rider. The electrical components within the bike also require additional caution in these situations.
Cikada e-Bikes are resistant to multi-directional water splashes, meaning it is okay to ride or park your e-Bike in the rain. Light to moderate raindrops or splashes from a wet road will also not harm the e-Bike but be wary of rainfall conditions or harsher weather such as snow. If weather impacts rider visibility and has the possibility to affect the bike's functionality, it is likely not a safe riding situation. With that in mind, safe riding!
First and foremost, we hope you are well! While electric bikes can be replaced, your health and time cannot. Whether the accident was minor or major, please refrain from riding your Cikada e-Bike, as operation in its current state is uncertain. Consult a local bike shop or Cikada dealer to assess damages, as a positive exterior examination may not detect hidden internal damage.
For any e-Bike accident, an authorized Cikada dealer or local bike shop must inspect for unseen structural damage. If they find internal issues, it becomes a safety concern, and replacement parts should not be sold without this inspection. If your bike is found to be safe but may need replacement parts, contact our Customer Service Team for next steps. Your safety matters to us!
Getting your Cikada e-Bike ready for winter storage is imperative to ensure a continued safe and smooth ride for the following riding season. Winter in Canada often brings extreme conditions, prolonged rain or snow, and low temperatures, all of which affect how you should store your e-Bike. Here are some friendly tips for winter e-Bike storage:
- Clean it up: Give your e-Bike a thorough clean, removing dirt and dust. Wipe down the frame, ensuring battery contacts are dry. Also, apply chain lube and rotate the crankarms to ensure the entire chain system is covered.
- Charge the battery: To store your LG battery cell (used in every Cikada e-Bike) safely, charge it to 75%-80% before storage. Monthly check-ins are recommended to keep it in this range.
- Choose a dry spot: Opt for a cool, dry storage space like a garage or basement.
- Battery care: Keep your e-Bike battery in a cool, dry place, not inserted into the bike or the charger. A wooden surface in the garage is ideal. For freezing temperatures, batteries should always be stored indoors. Batteries should be stored at temperatures between 32°F and 104°F (0°C and 40°C).
Local laws may allow or disallow the use of a trailer on an e-Bike. Consult local regulations before undertaking. Please note that all of these are DIY modifications at the owner's risk and may void the warranty if determined to impede or hinder bike performance.
E-Bikes possess significant power and are not meant for use by persons under the age of 16. Local laws and regulations may further restrict their use based upon the rider's age.
All Cikada e-Bikes get a quality check at our manufacturing facility. Therefore, your odometer may show limited mileage due to testing, but no worries – we never sell used bikes as new. Any concerns? Please reach out to our awesome support team!
Absolutely! As e-Bikes gain popularity for their eco-friendly perks, it is important to talk about battery disposal. At Cikada, we are all about responsible practices, and we are here to remind you that tossing old batteries in the trash is not an environmentally safe practice. This is why we have partnered with https://www.call2recycle.org/. Canada’s leading national consumer battery recycling organization.
E-Bike batteries have chemicals and minerals that could harm our environment if not handled properly. Instead, consider recycling them the right way. This not only keeps harmful agents out of landfills, but also lets those materials be reused in new batteries down the road. Let's keep our e-Bike passion green and clean!
If you need to recycle your e-Bike battery, you can bring it to any registered call2recycle collection site. These locations are fully equipped with the necessary materials to handle and recycle batteries safely. Cikada e-Bikes are unisex and feature a step-thru frame for easy mounting. No acrobatics needed – just step through gracefully and enjoy a comfortable ride. It’s all about convenience and inclusivity, making biking a breeze for everyone.
At Cikada Canada we always recommend wearing a helmet while riding an e-Bike. Depending on the jurisdiction and age of the rider, it may also be the law. Before you hop on your e-Bike for an adventure, make sure you comply with the local regulations and we advocate the use of helmets to keep you well protected. Enjoy!
While you pedal, you are conserving the battery's energy, but it will not charge as you ride. To juice up your e-Bike's battery, it needs quality time with a wall socket. So, pedal for fun, plug for power!
Given that e-Bikes tend to be heavier compared to traditional non-motorized bicycles, it is important to use a bike rack capable of handling the extra weight. Prior to transporting your e-Bike(s), verify that your chosen bike rack is designed to support the combined weight of your e-Bike(s).
Range & Performance
The range of an e-Bike is influenced by two main factors: battery size and assist mode. A larger battery gives you more distance per charge, while the assist mode affects how much power is used. Using higher assist levels uses more battery but helps on steep terrain. It is a balance between these factors that determines your e-Bike's range. Other things like rider weight also play a part.
Yes, you have flexibility when it comes to charging e-Bike batteries. They can be charged either while they are attached to the bike or when they are detached. This feature adds a nice touch of convenience to your e-Bike experience.
You can optimize the range of your e-Bike by finding a comfortable cadence, minimizing stops, and only carrying essentials. Additionally, using power-assist modes wisely can extend the battery range.
The e-Bike's throttle provides a helpful power boost when needed. It's best for quick bursts of energy, such as starting from a stop, tackling hills, or steep terrain. You can also use it to give your legs a needed break as required.
Cikada e-Bikes come with Walk Assist Mode located on the display console. This mode is designed to help users push their e-Bikes on steep inclines. It is particularly handy for moving your bike up staircase ramps, especially since e-Bikes are generally heavier than regular bikes. Simply press and hold the minus (-) button for two seconds in the Walk Assist Mode to activate.
